Metallography is the study of metals’ microstructural properties under a microscope. The microstructure viewed under a microscope can be interpreted to bring forth information/data that can be used to asses quality and also explain the behaviour of metals. 



  • Grain sizing

The grain size of steel has a direct bearing on the mechanical properties of steel

  • Micro-cleanliness

This is a measure of non-metallic impurities content in steel. Impurities also have a bearing on the mechanical properties of steel

  • Ferrite count

This is a measure of the ferrite/austenite phase content in duplex stainless steels

  • General analysis and interpretation

This form of evaluation is carried out to basically understand why materials behave the way the do, determine what forms of metallurgical treatments the material was accorded and whether these treatments were carried out accordingly.
